Basic drawing exercises

When drawing basic geometric figures, we most often use a drawing board, a fence and right triangles with angles of 45 °, 60 ° and 30 °.

The figure shows the most common ways of drawing with sets of triangles using a drawing board and a fence.

Drawing paper or tracing paper is attached to the drawing board with technical pins or tape covered with a layer of glue on one side (just like postage stamps). The method of attaching a sheet of paper to the tablet with a tape is shown in the figure.

After drawing up the drawing and cleaning the pencil marks with a drawing gum, tear off the tape and cut off the edges of the paper or tracing paper to the required dimensions.

Often times, a novice draftsman uses a fence to cut the paper, which causes jams and bumps, which make it unsuitable for further work, because they prevent drawing accurate, straight lines. When we do not have a steel ruler for cutting paper, a fence and a knife can be used (razor blades), putting a match on the end of the blade.

Part of the match stick separates the knife from the ruler and thus prevents it from jamming.

The important thing is to be able to properly arrange the drawings on the surface of the sheet of paper. Before starting the drawing, it is recommended to make a preliminary sketch to select the best layout. The sheet with the drawings made should be clean, and all drawing elements are easy to read and understand.

The drawing shows the arrangement of several elementary geometric figures on the drawing sheet. The drawing is bounded by a frame. This arrangement of drawings is used in the initial exercises and in composing various arrangements of geometric drawings.
